On December 13, 2024, the first meeting between the association's chairman and Pavel Matoušek took place in Prague with the aim of defining the specifications for the creation of a 3D model of the extinct village of Babiny I. The exact shapes of the buildings are unknown, but their layout is evident from an aerial survey image from 1946 (see the Project History section). They will be arranged similarly in the 3D model, with the buildings in a semi-transparent display taking the form of cuboids topped with simple gabled roofs. The 3D model should give an idea of the layout of the buildings in the landscape and their spatial arrangement. The model will feature two preserved buildings by the road in the southern part of the village (ownership: Czech Republic, state property management: Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic). In March 2025, Pavel Matoušek photographed the landscape in the agreed area with a drone, and on April 7, 2025, he presented the first working output of the 3D model with the silhouette of one demolished building. Pavel Matoušek valued the creation of the complete 3D model according to the assignment at CZK 42,000. On April 24, 2025, another meeting was held in Ústí nad Labem to discuss the next result with four buildings and two viewing modes (Explore and Tour), concluding that the chosen solution was correct and that financing would take place in two steps. The association will pay 1/3 of the price for the work done so far, and when the remaining amount of CZK 28,000 is available, the 3D model will be completed. On April 8, 2025, the association asked the Ústí Community Foundation for a grant, presenting the project to the foundation's committee on June 25, 2025. On July 7, 2025, the association was notified that the application had been rejected.
On the same day that the association's chairman defended the grant application before the Ústí Community Foundation committee, i.e. June 25, 2025, the chairman also presented the results of the association's activities before the Ústí Region committee, which evaluated the entire municipality of Malečov as part of the "Village of the Year 2025" competition. Given that the village of Malečov was subsequently awarded CZK 80,000 by the regional committee for its cooperation with the Malečovský rozhled association (see also NEWS from August 2, 2025), it was agreed between the village and the association's chairman that the remaining amount for the creation of the 3D model would be paid by the village. On November 10, 2025, Mr. Matoušek was instructed that he could work on the completion. The final details were agreed upon at a meeting between the association's chairman and Pavel Matoušek on December 10, 2025, in Ústí nad Labem. Judge for yourself the result from December 22, 2025.
You are cordially invited to take a tour of the 3D model of the extinct village of Babiny I.
The "Tour" mode will take you on an automatic flight over the extinct village with 9 stops each time you click on the "Next" button. Clicking on the "Prev" button allows you to move to the previous stop.
The "Explore" mode allows you to view the extinct village at your own discretion. For example, you can "walk" between buildings. Instructions on how to move around the 3D model will appear when you click on the question mark in the upper left corner of the screen. A PC is recommended for this mode.
