Following the presentation of the project “Babiny I – a vanished village” at the Malečov Centre on 13 August 2026, Mr Černý from Malečov approached the chairman of the association to ask whether it would be possible to restore the site of the so-called ‘Oak of Our Lady of Lourdes’, which stands by the forest track from Němčí to Čeřeniště, in a fitting manner. He mentioned that he had a friend who was an architect who could design the improvements, and that he would pay for the necessary work.
On 15 August 2026, following Mass at the Church of Our Lady Help of Christians, Mrs Vejvodová from Čeřeniště approached the chairman of the association regarding the same matter. She mentioned that she had a friend who was an artist and who would be willing to paint a picture of the Virgin Mary. Today, a photograph is affixed to the oak tree, which has practically faded away due to exposure to sunlight.
As this is not a standard Small sacred monuments (SSM), this site has not been assigned a Roman numeral nor is it listed in the Inventory of SSMs. However, the restoration of the site is included in the Renovation of SSM section. The oak tree is situated on the very boundary between the cadastral districts of Němčí and Tašov.
In the first of the following images (source: mapy.com), the outline of the image is still visible. The other images and the video show the condition as at 16 August 2026. The tourist gazebo is in good condition, though it is overgrown with vegetation. The same applies to the nearby spring. The oak tree will probably require professional intervention (in particular to prevent water from seeping into the hollow of the trunk). A dendrologist will be consulted.
